Realizate de-a lungul a trei decenii (1933-1963), aceste \u201echipuri\u201f de \u021b\u0103r\u0103nci \u0219i \u021b\u0103rani sunt \u00eenso\u021bite, pentru prima dat\u0103, de fragmente inedite din \u00eensemn\u0103rile artistului. \u00cempreun\u0103, imaginile \u0219i textele restituie dimensiunea unui pictor \u201eetnograf\u201f, care a documentat chipuri \u0219i vederi din \u021bara sa de adop\u021bie, Rom\u00e2nia. (Re)cunoscut \u0219i consacrat ca \u201epictor al \u021b\u0103ranilor\u201f, George baron L\u00f6wendal \u0219i-a asumat cu bun\u0103 \u0219tiin\u021b\u0103 sarcina de a \u00eenregistra, \u00een tablourile sale, fragmente ale unei istorii (str\u0103)vechi, pe cale de a se pierde \u00een zorii timpurilor moderne:<br \/>\nAni de-a r\u00e2ndul am petrecut \u00eentre \u021b\u0103rani. Muncind al\u0103turi de ei la c\u00e2mp \u0219i \u00een muncile casnice, m-am \u00eemprietenit cu sute dintre ei \u0219i poate c\u0103 asta s-a oglindit \u0219i \u00een nenum\u0103ratele cartoane \u0219i p\u00e2nze ale mele. Am n\u0103dejdea c\u0103 \u00een multe chipuri de \u021b\u0103rani ce am pictat am reu\u0219it s\u0103 redau uneori \u0219i starea lor sufleteasc\u0103; dar fire\u0219te c\u0103 nu puteam s\u0103 nu m\u0103 entuziasmez \u0219i de portul lor, p\u0103strat nev\u0103t\u0103mat nu de secole, ci poate de milenii. Mi-am dat repede seama c\u0103 marile descoperiri \u00een domeniul tehnicii nu vor \u00eent\u00e2rzia s\u0103 modifice felul de trai \u0219i deci \u00eentreaga \u00eenf\u0103\u021bi\u0219are a \u021b\u0103ranilor \u0219i m-am sim\u021bit r\u0103spunz\u0103tor, ca martor ocular, de a p\u0103stra ceea ce nu peste mult\u0103 vreme va dispare cu des\u0103v\u00e2r\u0219ire.<br \/>\n(fragment din \u00eensemn\u0103rile lui George L\u00f6wendal)<br \/>\nExpozi\u021bia, care prezint\u0103 peste 75 de lucr\u0103ri apar\u021bin\u00e2nd Funda\u021biei L\u00f6wendal, \u00eencheie acum, la Muzeul Na\u021bional al \u021a\u0103ranului Rom\u00e2n, seria de manifest\u0103ri ce au comemorat o jum\u0103tate de secol de la moartea artistului.
